DELAND, Fla. – Jeremiah Burke
(Delmar, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central / La Salle Institute) did not allow a
hit until the sixth inning and the Georgetown University baseball team
had 15 hits for the second-consecutive game, routing Sacred Heart 11-0
on Friday afternoon at Stetson's Conrad Park as part of the Westin Lake
Mary Stetson Invitational. With the win, the Hoyas move to 2-6 on the
season, while the Pioneers fall to 2-4.
Burke struck out a career-high 10 in 6.2 innings of work. He did not
allow a base runner until the fifth and only allowed two hits. Owen Lamon (Herndon, Va. / Oakton) retired all four batters he faced and Miller Freeman (Nashville, Tenn. / Montgomery Bell Academy) fired a scoreless inning in his collegiate debut.
Ryan M. Davis
(Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) had four hits to lead the GU
offense. He finished a double shy of the cycle with a home run, triple
and two singles. He also scored a pair of runs. Kyle Ruedisili
(Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University)
was also a double shy of the cycle as he homered, tripled and singled
while scoring four runs and finished with five RBIs. Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk) singled three times and Freddy Achecar III (Atlanta, Ga. / Lovett School) had a pair of base hits.
The Hoyas jumped on the board in the top of the first inning. Ruedisili
drew a walk and went to second on a wild pitch. He came around to score
on an infield single by Davis and a throwing error.
Georgetown added four more runs in the top of the second inning to expand its lead to 5-0. Achecar and Michael Willis
(Baltimore, Md. / Gilman) hit back-to-back doubles to score a run and
Ruedisili added an RBI single. After a single by Davis and wild pitch
put two more runners in scoring position, McCabe drove them both in with
a two-run single.
Ryan Weisenberg
(Parkland, Fla. / San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) singled in the bottom of
the fourth, stole second and went to third on an error. He crossed the
plate on a sacrifice fly by Ruedisili to make it 6-0.
A triple by Ruedisili in the bottom of the sixth chased home Willis, who
was hit by a pitch. Ruedisili then scampered home himself on a wild
pitch. In the bottom of the eighth, Ruedisili and Davis hit back-to-back
home runs to provide the final score, 11-0.
The Hoyas will return to action on Saturday evening when they take on
tournament-host Stetson. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and live
stats and a video stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.
Notes – Burke's 10 strikeouts were the most by a GU pitcher since Brent Killam
(Nokomis, Fla. / Venice) had 12 against Xavier on April 6, 2018 … The
back-to-back home runs were the first by a Georgetown duo since James Gabor (Wyndmoor, Pa. / William Penn Charter School) and Jake Bernstein (MSB'18) went deep in consecutive at-bats against George Mason on April 13, 2018.
