Lacrosse Topples George Mason, 15-8


WASHINGTON- Behind a high-powered offense led by Grace Curry's career outing, the GW lacrosse team earned a conference victory over DMV foe George Mason, besting the Patriots, 15-8, on a sunny Saturday at the Vern. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
GW dominated the first quarter, notching five goals in the opening frame

from Katie Fullowan and Curry. The Green & Gold got three on the board to give GW a two-goal advantage. In the second, the Green & Gold added two more while for GW, Curry added two of her own and Caroline Sullivan got on the board. Heading to the break, the Buff & Blue claimed a three-goal cushion over George Mason. 


In the second half, each team got on the board twice in the third, allowing GW to keep its offensive advantage. The final 15 was all GW, featuring five GW goals and just one for the visitors, giving GW its first conference victory of the season.


NOTABLES
·      Leading the GW offense all afternoon was Curry, scoring a career-high seven goals, which now places her tied for second in the record books in single-game scoring. The school record is eight, set by Emma Nowakowski last season
·      First-year Sophia Levine continued to be a key offensive playmaker, chipping in four assists to lead the home team. 
·      On defense, first-year Grace Gordon remained vigilant, causing four turnovers and grabbing five ground balls alongside teammates Stella Ray and Parker Cranz
·      On the draw, the Revolutionaries edged out the Patriots, 14-12, led by draw specialist Haley Bolton
·      In the cage, Gabi Greth earned 12 saves and finished with a .600 save percentage for the contest. 


Glancing ahead, GW will take a break from conference play, playing host to the Youngstown State Penguins next Friday at 1 p.m. on the Vern for the final non-conference contest of the season.
