District Receives Nearly $870,000 Federal Grant to Mitigate and Divert Harmful Pollutants from Municipal Industrial Vehicles

WASHINGTON, DC, November 30, 2021— The Department of Energy and Environment announces the District was awarded a $866,000 federal grant to help minimize pollutant leaches from municipal industrial vehicles such as snow plows, leaf vacuums, street sweepers, and trash trucks, and in turn reduce pollutant runoff into local sewers and local waterways. The grant comes from the U.S Department of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Sewer Overflow and Stormwater Reuse Municipal Grants (OSG) Program.

FDA Approves New Imaging Drug to Help Identify Ovarian Cancer Lesions

SILVER SPRING, Md., Nov. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Cytalux (pafolacianine), an imaging drug intended to assist surgeons in identifying ovarian cancer lesions. The drug is designed to improve the ability to locate additional ovarian cancerous tissue that is normally difficult to detect during surgery.

In July, the people of Cuba bravely and spontaneously took to the streets to demand change from their government: respect for human rights, greater freedom of expression, and an end to economic mismanagement by an authoritarian regime that has failed to meet their most basic needs.  The Cuban regime responded with violence, censorship, arrests, and summary trials, denying their citizens their rights to freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly.

Deputy Secretary Sherman’s Meeting with Peruvian Foreign Minister Maúrtua

Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman met with Peruvian Foreign Minister Óscar Maúrtua today in Lima, Peru.  Deputy Secretary Sherman and Foreign Minister Maúrtua discussed opportunities for progress under the Build Back Better World Initiative, how the United States and Peru can work together to address the climate crisis, and our two countries’ shared commitment to human rights and democracy.  They also exchanged diplomatic notes to officially implement the Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue Agreement between the United States and Peru.  Deputy Secretary Sherman thanked Foreign Minister Maúrtua for his active participation in the COVID-19 ministerial hosted by Secretary Blinken today and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to working with Peru and other partners across the hemisphere to bring the COVID-19 pandemic to an end.  She also thanked Foreign Minister Maúrtua for welcoming more than one million Venezuelan migrants to Peru.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Prime Minister Najib Mikati today in Glasgow on the margins of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26). The Secretary underscored continuing U.S. support for the Lebanese people as the country suffers the effects of a historic economic crisis. He encouraged the Prime Minister to implement reforms to rescue the country and restore international confidence. The Secretary also emphasized the importance of holding free and fair elections in the spring of 2022. The Secretary reiterated that the United States would continue to work with Lebanon for peace and prosperity in the region.

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team needed to secure one win here Saturday as the Bison went up against two tough United East Conference teams. At the end of the day, Gallaudet (19-11, 7-1 United East) came through with two wins as the Bison defeated Penn State Harrisburg in five sets, 3-2, and swept SUNY Morrisville, 3-0.

The two victories secure the No. 2 seed for Gallaudet in the upcoming United East tournament next week.

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet women's swimming and diving program kicked off its 2021-22 season here Friday night as the Bison welcomed Bridgewater (Va.) College to the Field House pool. The visiting Eagles won the non-conference meet, 215-31.

The meet officially began the Coach Nick Pezzarossi era leading the Gallaudet men's and women's swimming program.  

Bridgewater dominated and won all 15 events.

The Bison had a handful of second-place performances; Jaelynn King (Silver Spring, Md.) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (17:41.91) and Amelia Oliver (Elkridge, Md.) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:24.40).

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet men's swimming and diving program kicked off its 2021-22 season here Friday night as the Bison welcomed Bridgewater (Va.) College to the Field House pool. The visiting Eagles won 197-47 in the non-conference meet. 

The meet officially began the Coach Nick Pezzarossi era leading the Gallaudet men's and women's swimming program.  

Bridgewater dominated and won 14 of 15 events. Senior Ben Sealts (Ottawa, Ohio) won the 500-yard freestyle event easily with a time of 5:13.28. Sealts placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:47.63). Fellow senior Naveh Berner-Kadish (Takoma Park, Md.) finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:24.84).
