DDOT Closes out the National Cherry Blossom Festival with Events Featuring The Blossom Bus and Bike in Bloom

Washington DC - Beginning this weekend, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) celebrates the finale of the 2019 National Cherry Blossom Festival with special appearances of the DC Circulator Blossom Bus and Capital Bikeshare Bike in Bloom in the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade and Anacostia River Festival.


"Each year cherry blossom season brings millions from around the world to revel in the majesty and inspiration that exists within The District,” said DDOT Director Jeff Marootian. “We are proud to be included in the celebration with our innovative solutions to moving around our city with ease.”


On Saturday, April 13, the Blossom Bus, together with the Bike in Bloom, will make its second appearance in the nationally televised Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. Both sets of wheels will cruise the parade route along Constitution Avenue from 9th Street NW to 15th Street NW, among 100,000 spectators from around the world. The parade begins at 10 am and is free to the public.


On Saturday, April 20, DDOT will be a featured exhibitor at the fifth anniversary of the Anacostia River Festival at Anacostia Park. Families attending this free event will have the opportunity to see the Blossom Bus up close and learn the proper way to load a bike to the front bus rack. Capital Bikeshare will provide a free bike corral service at the intersection of Good Hope Rd SE and Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE. goDCgo will provide information on commuter services in The District.


The DC Circulator is also providing a free shuttle between the Anacostia Metro Station DC Circulator stop at Howard Rd. SE and the festival entrance at the 1200 block of Good Hope Rd. The shuttle will run approximately every 15 minutes from 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm.


This year both the Blossom Bus and the Bike in Bloom are 100% electric and demonstrate DDOT’s commitment to continuously enhancing our transportation network. In March Mayor Bowser announced a program to provide free annual Capital Bikeshare memberships to District veterans and pronounced that DC Circulator rides are permanently free for all.
