María Otero will travel to London, United Kingdom



Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights María Otero will travel to London, United Kingdom from December 3–5 and to Dublin, Ireland from December 6–7, 2012.
While in London, the Under Secretary will participate in a ministerial-level Steering Committee Meeting of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) chaired by the Government of United Kingdom to review recent progress of the Partnership in support of global open governance. Since its launch on September 20, 2011, OGP has grown to become a global community of government reformers, civil society leaders, and business innovators. Through concrete commitments announced via OGP action plans, fifty eight governments are taking important steps towards greater transparency, accountability and participation to improve the lives of people around the world. In London, Under Secretary Otero will also meet with officials of the Government of the United Kingdom to discuss a range of regional and global issues.
In Dublin, Under Secretary Otero will join Secretary Clinton at the ministerial meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), as well as at meetings with civil society representatives from across the OSCE region. The Under Secretary will also launch Embassy Dublin’s Youth Council with Secretary Clinton and the Secretary’s Special Adviser for Global Youth Issues Zeenat Rahman. Embassy Dublin’s Youth Council will be comprised of a diverse cross-section of young Irish leaders, students, young entrepreneurs, civil society members, and government representatives, and marks the 50th Youth Council launch to date.
