October 31, 2021 MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team needed to secure one win here Saturday as the Bison went up against two tough United East Conference teams. At the end of the day, Gallaudet (19-11, 7-1 United East) came through with two wins as the Bison defeated Penn State Harrisburg in five sets, 3-2, and swept SUNY Morrisville, 3-0. The two victories secure the No. 2 seed for Gallaudet in the upcoming United East tournament next week. Gallaudet and Penn State Harrisburg (19-9, 6-2 United East) traded the first two sets, 25-15, 27-29, before the host Lions won the third set, 23-25, and held a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set. The Bison rallied and won 25-20 and took the fifth and final set, 16-14.Sophomore Emily Wright (Auburn, Calif.) posted a career-high 32 kills with a .387 kill percentage while senior Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) tallied 23 kills, 17 digs and three service aces. Sophomore setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out 48 assists and made eight digs and three aces. Junior libero Mia Upchurch (Austin, Texas) made a match-high 20 digs. GU turned around and rolled SUNY Morrisville 25-17, 25-21, 25-22. Wright led the way with 12 kills and Lewis added eight kills and 12 digs while Giuntoli passed out 30 assists. BISON TRACKS
