From OFCCP:
OFCCP Honors Veterans Day
Today,
the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs honors America’s
veterans and we express our sincere gratitude to our nation’s service
members who have and currently serve with an unwavering commitment to
protecting our nation, many times at a great personal sacrifice to
themselves and their families.
As President Biden’s recent proclamation
observed, “we recognize and thank them for their indispensable
contributions and immeasurable sacrifices in support of our national
security. As we approach this season of thanksgiving, we send our
gratitude to millions of service members, veterans, military families,
caregivers, and survivors who have served and continue to serve our
Nation.”
At
OFCCP, we proudly work to ensure equal employment opportunity in the
civilian workforce for protected veterans, disabled veterans and spouses
of protected veterans – specifically with federal contractors,
including subcontractors. Under the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment
Assistance Act (VEVRAA) enforced by OFCCP, it is unlawful for a federal
contractor to discriminate in employment against protected veterans
including disabled veterans. OFCCP provides resources to federal
contractors to protect veterans from workplace discrimination, and to
veterans to understand their rights.
In
September, OFCCP reached a resolution with a federal contractor
regarding claims that it discriminated against a disabled veteran by
failing to accommodate his disability and terminating him. The
contractor agreed to provide $10,500 in back pay and interest, and to
remove all references to any discipline or termination from the
veteran’s personnel file.

VEVRAA
also requires certain federal contractors to develop a written
affirmative action program (AAP) and establish a hiring benchmark for
protected veterans each year. OFCCP provides technical assistance and
guidance to contractors to comply with their affirmative action
obligations under the law. OFCCP also encourages and facilitates linkage
relationships between contractors and community organizations and
recruitment resources to support recruitment and hiring of protected
veterans.
