Top 10 Revealed in 2019 American Fitness Index

Indianapolis (August 6, 2019) – National Farmers Market Week is being celebrated across the United States this week, and Washington, D.C. has extra reason to celebrate. D.C. ranks number one for farmers markets among the 100 largest U.S. cities, according to the 2019 American Fitness Index^®rankings published by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Anthem Foundation.

TSA screened 11.9M people during Fourth of July holiday weekend

Washington, D.C - The July fourth holiday weekend proved to be another record-breaking travel period for the Transportation Security Administration. Nationwide from July 3 to 7, more than 11.9 million passengers and crew went through security checkpoints, and over 8 million checked bags were screened. On Sunday, July 7, TSA experienced its busiest day in history, screening 2,795,014 passengers and crew surpassing the Memorial Day weekend record by a couple thousand.

“The operational success we experienced over the July fourth holiday weekend is a testament to the combined efforts of our dedicated workforce and industry alliances,” said TSA Acting Deputy Administrator Patricia Cogswell. “What I’m most proud of isn’t just the quantity of passengers and checked bags screened, but the quality of the screening our people provided even with that tremendous volume.”

Despite the surge of passengers over the weekend, nationwide 99.7% of passengers waited less than 30 minutes in standard lanes, and 99.1% of TSA Pre✓® passengers waited less than 10 minutes.

TSA expects many more record-breaking periods this summer and advises passengers to continue to arrive to the airport prepared and early – two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight.

TSA typically screens about 2.2 million passengers and crew members each day. Passenger throughput over the July fourth holiday travel period surpassed the 2.2 million average every day with the exception of Thursday, July 4.

Temporary Lane Closure and Traffic Pattern Shift on Minnesota Ave and Benning Road NE

Washington, DC — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close the curb lane and shift the traffic pattern on northbound Minnesota, NE from Dix St, NE to Benning Rd, NE beginning Friday, June 7, 2019, weather permitting.

During the temporary lane closure, northbound traffic will be shifted to the center of the roadway and one lane of traffic in each direction will be available at all times. This activity will run continuously behind barricades from 7:00 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2019 through 7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019, weather permitting.

DDOT will also temporarily close a single lane and shift the traffic pattern on eastbound Benning Rd, NE from Minnesota Ave, NE to 39th Street NE. One lane of traffic in each direction will be available at all times. This activity will run continuously beginning Friday, 7:00 a.m. through Sunday, 7:00 p.m., on weekends between Friday, June 7, 2019 through Sunday, June 30, 2019, weather permitting.

This work is a part of the ongoing Minnesota Avenue Phase II Rehabilitation Project and is required for roadway reconstruction.

Pedestrians and motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful construction personnel.

Temporary Lane Closures on Foxhall and Canal Roads Begin June 12

Washington, DC — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is scheduled to temporarily close lanes of traffic on Foxhall Road from MacArthur Boulevard to Canal Road NW and Canal Road from Foxhall Road to Whitehurst Freeway NW starting on or about Wednesday, June 12, 2019, weather permitting.


The contractor is authorized to work Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  and 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The contractor is also authorized to work on Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. At least one lane will be open to traffic in each direction at all times.


Construction is scheduled to be completed by July 3, 2019, weather permitting. The closures and restrictions are needed to resurface the roadway.


Traffic control devices will be in place. Motorists should anticipate moderate delays due to the lane closures. Drivers are advised to stay alert while traveling through these locations and to be observant of the work zone.
