Oxnard, California – The American Tall Ship Institute calls on the community to enjoy a pirate adventure while supporting education. On Saturday, March 2, the American Tall Ship Institute (ATSI) is having a Pirate Gala Haul-Out Party. The annual event will be a fundraiser for their tallship, Bill of Rights, and all proceeds of the event will go toward the biennial Coast Guard required haul-out and maintenance. The “Bill” is in need of repair, and won’t be able to do summer programs without completing this haul out.
The Pirate Gala promises to be an adventure including sword fighting, live music, dancing, raffles, live and silent auctions, a no-host bar and heavy hors-devours. “It's going to be a blast,” said Emily King, ATSI's Fundraising Director who is coordinating the event. “We’ve worked hard to make this a memorable and fun event, but we need to raise the money to haul out the Bill of Rights this Spring, or our programs could suffer.”
Many in the community have been doing their part to see this event’s success. The Channel Islands Yacht Club is donating the space and handling the bar. The Club is located at 4100 Harbor Blvd., Oxnard, CA 93035.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.americantallship.org or reserved by calling 805-436-7805. Businesses/ individuals interested in sponsoring or donating items for the auctions should call the same number.

American Tall Ship Institute Camp
Since 2007, we have grown our organization by working with groups. Scout troops, church groups, and school groups have gone out with us to the Channels Islands and stayed on board the Bill of Rights. For the first time ever, you can purchase your child's week aboard the tallship, Bill of Rights, without booking the entire ship with a group. Tickets are limited, and are sold first come, first serve.
While we do educate youth of all ages, these camps are designed for ages 9-14. Older youth may be selected to join our group as camp counselors in training (CIT).
EXTREME Explorers 6 Day Camp
This exploratory and fun filled week starts with a full day sail transit aboard the tallship, Bill of Rights, to Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands National Park. Adventures included are at least 3 days of living aboard a tallship, 2 days of camping, night sailing, snorkeling ship wrecks, kayaking, and exploring the Island. Campers will learn sailing and marine sciences while on board the ship, and learn geology and archeology while exploring the Island. This is an opportunity learn about the wildlife that can only be found on this island, the effects of human habitation, the importance of conservation, and have a series of adventures that are likely to affect them for life.
This week is packed full of so much learning and fun, one could experience it several times over and never find a dull moment. We are excited to help youth discover this amazing place in our own backyard!
Camps are $675 per child. There may be space for parents; feel free to inquire.
