The Best of 2012: The Last Sail Is Past

Photography and Verse
By Doug Mills

The Last Sail Is Past

The last sail is past.
The summer has passed too fast.
Time to take the sails from the mast.
The last sail has passed.
Time to rest at last.

Fall

The air is cooler now,
The hills are ablaze of
Red and yellow against
A deep blue sky.
The waters are calm
And the gentle breezes fill the sails.

Tis’ bitter sweet knowing
Soon the snow will fall,
But, for today I will enjoy
The last sail of the season.

Red And Yellow And Gold

Fall’s fire on the hills
Red and yellow and gold
Reaching down to the harbor,
Red and yellow and gold
Enjoy it today
Red and yellow and gold
For tomorrow it will be gone
Red and yellow and gold

Winter

The air has taken a chill.
The boats have been tucked away till spring.
In the sky the clouds are dark
And filled with snow.

The fire in the wood stove is
Bright and the coffee is hot.
Here I will stay till the
Warm breezes of spring
Melt the ice in the harbor
And bring new life to my watery world.

A Sailor

I am but a sailor on the sea of life.
The storms will cone and the storms will go.
Though the cold winds cut like a knife,
I will arrive safely in port,This I know.
