DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO HOLD WORKING SESSION ON GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Washington, D.C. – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (DCSBOE) will hold a working session to discuss revisions to the proposed high school graduation requirements.

The working session will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 4:30 pm at 441 4th Street NW, Room 1114.

While working sessions are open to the public, individuals and representatives of organizations are not permitted to speak or participate during the working session. However, individuals and representatives of organizations may submit written testimony for consideration by the Board. Written testimony may also be submitted by email at sboe@dc.gov.

President Adams’ Alligator Meets Washington Humane Society Adoptables

Meet Authors and Available Pets at Children's Book Signing Benefit

Washington, DC – Children’s book authors and illustrators Peter W. Barnes and Cheryl Shaw Barnes will team up with the Washington Humane Society (WHS) for a book signing party for President Adams’ Alligator. On February 10, 2013, home furnishings store Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams will host the signing, just in time for Presidents Day.

Adopt Force One, the WHS mobile adoption center, will be onsite with adoptable animals ready to find their forever homes. During the event, children and their families can purchase President Adams’ Alligator and have it signed by co-author Cheryl Barnes. She will also do an interactive reading from the book, with props and games for the kids. Guests will also learn about WHS programs and the importance of animal welfare. Light refreshments will be served.

In their book, Peter and Cheryl Barnes teach children presidential history, from George Washington to Barack Obama, through the First Pets. The United States’ 6^th President John Quincy Adams had an unusual pet, an alligator, whom he kept in the White House’s East Room. President Adams’ Alligator ties in presidential history and a love for animals of all shapes and sizes.

2013 Tour kicks off in Europe April 15th
North American Tour Begins June 28th

Washington, D.C.  – Parkwood Entertainment recently announced that The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour starring Beyoncé kicks off in Europe on April 15, 2013.  With stops in twenty European cities, including Dublin, Ireland; Berlin, Germany; Paris, France and a four-night stint at The 02 in London, UK, this is Beyoncé’s first multi-city tour in over three years.   

Live Nation also announced today that Beyoncé’s North American Tour begins on June 28 in Los Angeles, California. The tour will travel to over twenty cities throughout North America this summer, including Atlanta, Georgia, at the Gwinnett Center, Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center, Houston, Texas at the Toyota Center, Toronto, Ontario at Air Canada Centre and Washington, D.C. at Verizon Center. 

On June 28, Beyoncé returns to Los Angeles, California as part of the BET Experience at L.A. Live at the Staples Center.  She is set to headline the first of the three-night STAPLES Concert series.   Continuing her successful run at international music festivals, following a headlining night at Glastonbury in 2011, she is confirmed to headline at the world’s largest music festival, Rock in Rio, on its first night, September 13 at the "City of Rock" in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.   Rock in Rio has set records for its massive crowds and its powerful media drive.

The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour promises to be the entertainer’s most ambitious undertaking to date.  It is expected to be bigger in scope than any of her previous shows. Slated to run for almost one year, the second wave of the tour is planned for Latin America, Australia and Asia.
