BIG HIT ELUDES GEORGETOWN IN SETBACK TO UNCG

The Hoyas outhit UNCG, led by three hits by Jake Bernstein

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team outhit UNC Greensboro, 10-8, but fell by a 5-2 score on Friday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 7-18, while the Spartans improve to 19-6.
Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) started on the mound and went 5.0 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out five. Jeremiah Burke (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central/La Salle Institute) made his season debut and fired two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts. Matt Randolph (Concord, N.C./Cannon School/Emory) recorded two strikeouts for a scoreless inning of work for the second-consecutive day.
Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John’s College HS) led the offense with three hits. Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) had two hits, including a double, and was on base four times. Freddy Achecar III (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett School) and Alex Bernauer (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) each had a pair of hits.
For the second-straight game, the Hoyas jumped out to a quick lead, scoring a run in the top of the second inning. Bernauer singled with one out and moved up to second on a two-out walk by James Gabor (Wyndmoor, Pa./William Penn Charter School). Davis lined an RBI single into right field, scoring Bernauer to give GU a 1-0 lead. 
UNCG answered right back in the bottom of the second, using a single, two doubles and a triple to go ahead, 3-1. Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings extended Georgetown’s deficit to 5-1.
The Hoyas had their chances, loading the bases in both the fifth and sixth innings, but couldn’t cut into the deficit. In all, GU left 13 runners on base.
An Achecar single, Bernauer double and a passed ball tallied the final run for the Hoyas in the ninth inning.
