ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – A Coast Guard boatcrew from Station Mayport in Atlantic Beach responded and provided medical assistance after a 70-year-old man began experiencing symptoms similar to cardiac arrest on a charter fishing boat 14 miles east of the entrance to the St. Johns River.
A crewmember on the Atlantic Beach-based charter fishing vessel Majesty notified Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Jacksonville at 1:45 p.m., that a passenger was in need of immediate medical assistance.
A boatcrew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat – Medium from Station Mayport was already underway and diverted from their mission to assist. Once on scene, two of the Coast Guardsmen went aboard the Majesty, consulted a Coast Guard flight surgeon, and determined based on the man’s condition and the sea state that it was safest to keep him on the Majesty while transporting him to shore.
The two Coast Guardsmen remained aboard the Majesty and provided medical support while the RB-M crew escorted the Majesty to Monty’s Marina in Atlantic Beach, where emergency medical technicians were waiting. The EMTs transported the man, who was in stable condition, to a local hospital for further treatment. His current condition is unknown.
