BB: Gallaudet drops non-conference doubleheader to Wilson

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Wilson College on a chilly Sunday at Hoy Field. The Bison (1-3) dropped the first game 10-2 and lost the second game to the Phoenix (2-0) by nine runs, 12-3.

Game 1: Wilson 10, Gallaudet 2
Wilson struck first in the top of the second inning with five runs as a costly throwing error led to the big inning for the visiting Phoenix. Gallaudet responded with two runs of its own in the bottom half when sophomore catcher Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, Calif.) led things off with a triple to center field. Junior Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) singled to

center to plate Diaz and get the Bison on the scoreboard, 5-1. Sophomore Josh Dugan (San Antonio, Texas) singled through the right-side of the Wilson infield to put runners on the corner for senior second baseman Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.), who reached base on a fielder's choice as Sliva-Wynner came scored. The next two Bison batters went down swinging to end the threat.

Wilson added two runs in the fourth and fifth innings and added an insurance run in the seventh while the Bison were held scoreless and limited to four hits over the final five innings played.

Austin Sliva-Wynne took the loss as he allowed seven runs (four earned) on five hits, walked three, hit one batter and struck out three in four innings worked. Freshman Robert Quigley (Mountain View, Calif.) threw three innings of relief as he surrendered three runs (two earned) on two hits, walked five, hit two and recorded one strikeout.

Wilson starting pitcher Cam Nolet (1-0) earned the win as he went four innings and gave up two runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out a game-high eight batters.

Game 2: Wilson 12, Gallaudet 3
Gallaudet broke up the 12-0 shutout with three runs scored in the bottom of the seventh inning. All of Gallaudet's runs were scored with two outs as the Bison fell 12-3 to the Phoenix.

Salvador Diaz triple to right field to plate senior third baseman Winston Lane III (Brooklyn Center, Minn.), who reached base after he got hit by the pitch. Austin Sliva-Wynne followed with a RBI single up the middle to plate Salvador Diaz. Dugan drew a walk and moments later Austin Sliva-Wynne stole third base to put Bison runners on the corners. Frank Diaz singled to right field to bring home Gallaudet's third and final run.

Wilson scored a run in the first and twice in the second to take an early 3-0 lead.
