Gallaudet breaks up shutout against No. 7 Christopher Newport

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Gallaudet University baseball team traveled south Sunday to take on nationally-ranked Christopher Newport University at Captains Park. Gallaudet (2-5) fell to No. 7 CNU (8-0) in the non-conference game, 14-1.

The Bison got on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth inning when senior Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) grounded out to plate sophomore Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) from third base. The run ended CNU's shutout as the Bison trailed by seven runs, 8-1.

The Captains responded with five runs on two hits in the bottom half of the frame.

Gallaudet finished the game with four hits, led by senior Ryan Gilbert (Mount Dora, Fla.), who had two singles.

Bison starting pitcher Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) started on the mound and took the loss as he allowed five runs on six hits, walked three and struck out two in four innings of work. A trio of Bison relievers followed as CNU scored nine runs off of them.
