Coast Guard Crews Rescue Two Sailors West Of Silver Strand

SAN DIEGO – Coast Guard crews rescued two recreational sailors nearly two miles west of Silver Strand State Beach after their 12-foot sailboat capsized, Friday.

The 418-foot Coast Guard Cutter Waesche crew was in the area when they noticed the capsized vessel with one person on the hull and the other clinging to the side of the hull around 2:30 p.m.

The Alameda, Calif.-based cutter launched their small boat and rescued the two people from the water.

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station San Diego arrived on scene, transferred both sailors onto their vessel, righted the sailboat and safely towed it to Shelter Island.

The uninjured sailors remained at Shelter Island.
